Nearly everyone who is signing up seems to be using their real name; however there's still a few that are very obviously fake. Please folks, realise this: if you don't provide that information accurately now, and in 2 years time you are at the top of the leaderboard, if your real name does not match what you signed up as then you will not be eligible for the prize! This will be audited for the winner, and for progress prize winners. So please double-check now - if you made a mistake, or didn't consider this when entering, please contact us using the link on the site and let us know, and we'll update it for you. (Be sure to do this ASAP - if you wait, it might be too late!)

Also, please be very aware of the rule that you can only sign up once - again, please don't get yourself in a situation where you are not eligible to win a prize because in prize-winner auditing it turns out you've got a 2nd account! Don't risk it - there's lots of ways, both obvious and not-so-obvious, that multiple entries can be identified. With 2 years to analyse this data, there's no point risking being disqualified.

(The advisory board for this comp includes a Netflix prize winner, a 3-times KDD cup winner, a de-anonymization expert, and so forth - there's lot of real-world experience there in running and competiting in big comps, so they know all the tricks and how to spot them!)

Just to clarify: you can choose whatever username and display name you like - it's just the field called "Real Name" that needs to contain your actual name.

Note: If you were already an existing Kaggle member before today and used your existing account, don't worry about this quite yet. You will be asked in the future to supply your real name to your profile. Currently, you can't edit your profile, but this will be coming.

jphoward, I've filled in more complete information in my user profile twice tonight and both times the information was gone when I clicked back into my profile page to view my changes. I made sure to hit the save button at the bottom of the form both times, is it possible there is an error with this form?

@Marshall70: The "Real name" field only appears when signing up for the Heritage Health Prize. It does not appear on your profile, and can not be edited without emailing us. If you are an existing Kaggle user, we will be creating a page allowing you to set your real name prior to submissions being accepted.

How do I delete a secondary account that I created before I was aware of this rule?

I don't think it matters.

Please contact us directly with the username you need removed. Obviously at the moment it's no big deal - but later in the comp if both usernames have a bunch of submissions, we may not always be able to help with this.

I registered for updates (for which I received confirmation) but the system did not recognize my login information. I took that to mean I wasn't actually a kaggle member (i.e. there was a difference between being a member and just having registered for updates), so I registered on the kaggle site. Does this mean I have two accounts?

If you only pre-registered for this competition and did not already create a Kaggle account, you'll need to create a new one. You can use the "forgot username" feature and provide your email address to see if you already have an account.

You can now view your real name and submit a real name correction (even if you were an existing Kaggle member) by going to http://www.heritagehealthprize.com/Users/EditProfile

This page throws an exception for me.

Do I smell a future kaggle contest?
